PCB Analysis

}

We all are aware that increasing Pollution is the major cause of Global warming. It is our responsibility to work for the prevention of environmental pollution. Industrialization is the major cause so far. Lots of chemicals are being used by every industry on a big scale and those chemicals are flush out into the river, spread out into the air and through air and water some where it is harming us.

One of the chemical called PCB (Polychlorinated Biphenyl) was used as liquid dielectric in transformers and capacitors, lubricants and other prior to 1980’s. PCB recognized as a hazardous chemical when it’s dangerous effects were found in environment. Its’ hazardous effects likes cancer, fertility and other disorders have been observed and then it was banned after 1985. Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) was then created in 2004, in which 158 countries including India have committed for destruction of this toxic chemical like PCB.

It is found that still there are some equipments having quantity of this toxic chemical. In this regard Government of India has ordered Ministry of Environment & Forests (MOEF) to work on it. It is mandatory for every Industry whether it is Electricity Boards, steel manufacturers, Railways, Fertilizer Industries, Paper Industries, Cement or other to go for a PCB analysis or test of their equipments.

Transformer oil samples, capacitors and other can be sent for testing at New Delhi Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. Your Transformers and capacitors may contain certain levels (ppm) of PCB’s which should be disposed off, More than 50 PPM (Parts per million) means “PCB Contaminated”. We all need to be together and step forward to help out the Government to be successful in this project.
